The Holy Scriptures

How can we know God?

We can know God through His creation. His wisdom, greatness and power are visible all over the earth. The prophet David said it in Psalm 19: “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” (Psalm 19:1)

This shows that people are able to get to know God by observing his work of creation. But we are unable to know God entirely through his creation. We can know him through his Word, which he has spoken to mankind. For example, he spoke to Abraham, “and he was called a friend of God.” (James 2:23b)

He spoke through many other prophets. He sent them to tell the inhabitants of the earth about Him. He also sent Jesus, of whom it is said in the Injil: “for the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17)

God's words are collected in the Holy Scriptures

God entrusted his words to many prophets and apostles. He showed them what to write and how to write it. That's why the apostle Paul said:
“All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness” (2 Tim 3:16).

This means that God makes himself known to us through the Holy Scriptures. We need to apply ourselves to reading his Word. Jesus himself said:
“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life: and it is they that bear witness about me” (John 5:39)

The Scriptures do speak of Jesus. They tell us that Jesus came to this earth. He humbled himself to the death. God raised him from the dead and gave him a name above every name. The Scriptures point us to Jesus and tell us that if we believe in him, we will inherit eternal life. Jesus commanded his disciples to go into all the world to proclaim this wonderful news. If you want to know more about Jesus and the other prophets, read the Holy Scriptures.

How to read the Holy Scriptures

The Holy Scriptures are made up of the Torah, the Zabur and the Prophets, and the Injil. The Torah and Zabur are written in Hebrew. The Injil is written in Greek. These are two languages that not all of us can read. But God has seen to it that the Holy Scriptures are translated into many languages. MERN was sent to the Mogofin region to ensure that the Mogofin people could also receive the Holy Scriptures in their own language.
